GMTM Profile - Sarah Murrell - Squamish, BC

This Mountain Obsession section features an outstanding member(s) of the Global Mountain Tribe. We aim to profile one of the our GMTMs frequently. Get to know a new member of the Global Mountain Tribe - you may just recognize them on the trail!
Sarah Murrell is a GMTM who hails from the Canadian climbing mecca of Squamish, British Columbia. When not bagging and tagging peaks, or crushing lines, she is working on her project to encourage women to get outdoors: WWD Club. Clearly, she embodies the Mountain Obsession Manifesto.
Big John: My husband has the pleasure of sharing a cabin with his family in the Flathead Valley - East Kootenays of British Columbia. It is about a three hour drive into the valley and another long trek out to this spot we call “Big John”. An amazing, exhilarating mountain range filled with picture perfect scenery and colors.
Tricouni Meadows: When you begin the trek to Tricouni you pass through many gorgeous fields and beside a couple green lakes. The trail is extremely muddy and you find yourself knee deep in it sometimes. If you endure the hike in you will be rewarded by picture perfect campgrounds, looming peaks, clean/fresh water and a good night under the stars.
Wedgemount Lake: One of my favorite photographs from this past summer. Loved exploring this area and having a dip in the cold glacier water! s. The next day we looked out and pointed at which summit we wanted to conquer that morning. We chose Metal Dome: A relatively easy scramble with only a few steep sections. The views we’re exceptional. This photo is of Doc, our dog, proudly standing on the summit.
Wedgemount Lake: I chose to include two photos from the Wedge area. Such a gorgeous place located just outside of Whistler, B.C. This particular capture is so inviting and really shows the basics of camping. All you really need in life - A good tent and a steller view.
Gimli Ridge: Huge, wild flower covered meadows, enormous ridge lines and home to lots of mountain goats! We never got around to climbing on Gimli but are looking forward to returning for that again soon.
Gimli Ridge: This past summer we had the pleasure of exploring the West Kootenays of British Columbia. This particular spot was a sight to never be forgotten.
Metal Dome: One weekend Justin and I, along with two friends, decided to head out for a one nighter in the mountains. We chose to go to Brandywine Meadows - A gorgeous area surrounded by many accessible mountain peaks. The next day we looked out and pointed at which summit we wanted to conquer that morning. We chose Metal Dome: A relatively easy scramble with only a few steep sections. The views we’re exceptional. This photo is of Doc, our dog, proudly standing on the summit.
Red Heather: Squamish has many amazing trail systems within it. This was taken on route up to Red Heather Hut and Elfin Lakes Hut. The trail is extremely easy and opens up to incredible, breath taking views.
Joffre Lakes: This photo was taken at Middle Joffre Lakes. A short, beautiful hike leads you through a group of sparkling bluish/green lakes. This has to be, by far, one of my favorite spots to photograph. No editing is ever required. The day this photo was shot, we had began to hike in a thick fog. When we reached the top lake the fog began to roll out so quick that we hardly noticed it. Lucky for us, blue sky could be seen for miles.
The Lowdown: Grew up in the East Kootenays of British Columbia, now currently located on the coastal shores of Squamish B.C – Devoted Climber who enjoys freelance writing and scrambling mountains in her spare time. Currently works as a swim instructor, as well as volunteering with Squamish Search and Rescue. Started WWD CLUB to help get more women in touch with the outdoor sports world.
“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more…” – Lord Byron
